Amongst the many old photos of the Bakery and Restaurant we found this poster for the 1924 British Empire Exhibition.  Opened by King George V on St George's Day, 23rd April 1924, at the time this was the largest exhibition ever staged and between 1924 and 1925 it attracted around 27 million visitors.  Following the exhibition the Empire Stadium was renamed Wembley Stadium and became the home of English football until it's demolition in 2002. Apparently the Empire Stadium took 300 days  and cost £750,000 to build , contrasting nicely with the new Wembley Stadium which took  around 1,600 days and cost £798 million.
